95 Years Strong

“When I first came to Eugene I visioned it a city of progress and prosperity. It was my ambition to erect one of the finest buildings here—to build for posterity.” —W.E. Miner (from the Eugene Guard, April 1st, 1925). Born in 1859 in Wisconsin, W.E. Miner’s professional holdings were in timber and real estate. He came to Eugene in 1923 with a vision to create a beacon for business in downtown Eugene — to bring doctors, dentists, lawyers, insurance and timber professionals into the heart of the city.

With building designs from architect and local legend John Hunzicker, W.E. Miner erected the city’s tallest building – and its first high-rise – as a solid eight-story concrete and steel framed structure. The building style is modeled after a blend of half-modern and classic architectural elements with a modern aesthetic. It took 100 men working each day over the course of a year to complete The Miner Building, which opened to tenants March 1st, 1925.

Fast forward to today and you’ll see The Miner Building is home to modern, spacious commercial spaces with historic details, high-tech fiber, and 360-degree views. It is the modern vision of W.E. Miner’s original goal.
